Rules

1. The SOUTHERN AFRICA ULTRA TRAIL SERIES 2022 is comprised of 18 races.

2. A series ranking is open to all athletes that complete 2 or more events on the race calendar, regardless of their level.
3. Points are awarded per race based on finishing position results and the male and female runner with the most points will be crowned as the SOUTHERN AFRICA ULTRA TRAIL CHAMPION of 2022.
4. An athletes’ best 3 results are retained and used to calculate their overall points for the series ranking.

5. Each Race will be ranked as a category 1,2 or 3 race, and points allocated to that race accordingly.

Series points will then be awarded to the athletes in accordance to their finishing position.  The below points are an example of how the points will be awarded in a category 1 race:

• Female Open Category: 25, 22, 19, 15, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2,1,1,1,1

6. In the event that there is a tie for 1st place in the series, then head-to-head results whereby the tied parties raced at the same events will be calculated, and the points won at those events will be used to determine an overall winner. If the parties remain tied after the head-to-head, then total points for the season, using the un-retained results will be used. Finally if no winner is able to be announced then the series will be announced as tied and the 1st place prize money will be shared between the two athletes.
7. Each individual race on the S.A.U.T.S calendar has its own unique rules and regulations and it is the responsibility of EACH INDIVIDUAL ATHLETE to respect those rules.
